Experience heroes: Emergency management from Lobbe demonstrates the professional recovery of e-vehicles at the Safety Days in Hemer.
Hemer. On the first weekend in June, the 8th Safety Days took place in Hemer at Sauerlandpark under the motto "Experience Heroes". Lobbe Havariemangement was also present. Visitors were particularly interested in the demonstrations with the Lobbe e-vehicle safety container. Together with the Hemer fire department, the emergency management team demonstrated what to do in the event of an e-car fire. The background to this is that the proportion of electrically powered vehicles in road traffic has increased significantly. According to the Federal Motor Transport Authority, the number of electric vehicles in Germany rose to 618,000 from 2021 to 2022. Hybrid vehicles, including plug-in hybrid passenger cars, are added with more than 1.5 million units. However, as mobility changes, the industry also faces new challenges - including vehicle security in the event of an accident. The solution is seven meters long and the latest addition to the Lobbe accident management fleet. The new salvage container can be used to pick up damaged electric vehicles, transport them and secure them properly. Around the clock and on call.
High-voltage batteries can still catch fire several days after an accident. For this reason, special requirements apply to the handling of electric vehicles - also with regard to preventive fire-fighting measures. If an airbag is triggered or the vehicle's underbody is damaged, it has to be "quarantined." "Then our salvage container comes into play," explains Thomas Schaefer, head of accident management. "If the vehicle itself is no longer drivable, we pull it into the container using a winch and rollers. There it is stored for up to two weeks." The sides are made of fireproof tarpaulins. In addition, the container can be flooded with up to 8,500 liters of water. This is especially important for recovering a vehicle immediately after a fire. A removable roof ensures that there is room for larger electric vehicles, such as a van.
