An example of the innovative approach to dismantling projects is the demolition of a settling tank on the grounds of the former gas combine “Schwarze Pumpe”. Since the tank was filled with potentially self-igniting tar products, working with cutting torches was not an option. Instead, the nitrogen-pressurized tank was cut open at the top with hydraulic shears, and opened just like a can. A crane removed the roof, the residues were then removed and disposed of. Since then, Lobbe has dismantled more (also double-walled) tanks, including in the former Sustec tank farm Schwarze Pumpe.
Since simple disassembly is not the only task in most cases, the dismantling of plants places a high demand on design, technology and implementation strategy. Lobbe takes on the complete coordination and execution of all activities. These range from so-called “cleaning before demolition” to the recovery and disposal of residues of all types and consistency, and finally to the leveling or decontamination of the area. The close cooperation with its sister company, Kluge, which specializes in the rehabilitation of (building) pollutants such as asbestos, PCBs and KMF, has also proven to be effective.

The most difficult step in the dismantling of large industrial tanks is removing the roof of the tank. This video was recorded as a live report of such an event.
