Europe's most modern sorting plant is being built in Menden
Lobbe sets new standards in the circular economy
Menden. With the construction of a new state-of-the-art sorting plant for lightweight packaging in the
Hämmer industrial estate in Menden, Lobbe is once again investing in a high-performance facility that
recycling management and climate protection at the highest level. This pioneering project reflects the
Lobbe Group's enthusiasm for innovative technologies. The symbolic ground-breaking ceremony was attended by
representatives of the Lobbe Group as well as local politicians and guests directly involved in the project. District Administrator
Marco Voge and Menden's mayor Dr. Roland Schröder emphasized in their speeches the importance of the
of the project for the region and the town of Menden.
Based on state-of-the-art environmental technology and the use of artificial intelligence (AI), recyclable materials
are recognized and separated much more precisely. This leads to an exceptionally high sorting and recycling rate
and thus to significantly higher CO2 savings. The purity of the sorted plastic packaging is also
significantly improved, which enables more diverse use of the recyclable materials for reuse and recycling
. The new plant also meets the highest sustainability requirements, such as PV systems, heat pumps
and the use of waste heat.
"Many people talk about the green footprint. At Lobbe, the handshake is already green. We are actively shaping the future with investments, such as in another
recycling sorting plant," says Gustav Henrik Edelhoff, shareholder of the Lobbe
Group. His company regularly sets new standards in environmental technology with innovative products and
processes. "Our major project in Menden is a pioneering step that shows With modern technology and
a clear focus on climate protection through the circular economy, Lobbe is making a decisive contribution from which the
industry and society will benefit," adds Michael Wieczorek, Managing Director at Lobbe
Umweltservice GmbH & Co KG.
In future, up to 140,000 tons of lightweight packaging per year from the dual system will be processed in Menden.
The high-tech facility is being built on an area of 35,500 square meters - roughly the size of
five soccer pitches. The project is being funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection.
Project future: Thanks to AI and state-of-the-art technology, the new sorting plant in Menden ensures that even more recyclable materials are kept in circulation.
