Lobbe maintains waste collection service

Waste disposal is systemically relevant

Iserlohn, 3.4.2020. Every employer is protecting their employees from the coronavirus pandemic to the best of their ability. But what happens to the waste? "It will continue to be collected as usual," says Heike Edelhoff, shareholder of Lobbe Holding GmbH & Co KG. This is also necessary, as the disposal of waste is relevant to the system. However, Lobbe has closed the collection points for the time being in consultation with the local authorities, municipalities and districts that commissioned them; this applies to Attendorn, Arnsberg, Warstein, Iserlohn, Balve, Bergneustadt, Hemer, Menden and Werdohl. "Individual deliveries are possible in exceptional cases by telephone arrangement. In principle, there is only the option of electronic payment," Heike Edelhoff continues. The disposal of bulky waste will continue as before. The hazardous waste mobile in the Märkischer Kreis and Hochsauerlandkreis districts is currently not running, nor can small electrical appliances be disposed of at present. The refuse collectors are adequately protected by their personal protective equipment (high-visibility clothing, safety shoes, gloves). However, households in which infected persons or persons in domestic quarantine live should ensure that they place the waste in the bins in well and securely knotted waste bags and do not overfill the bins so that the lids remain closed. This prevents Lobbe employees and other people from coming into contact with the waste. In this way, the further spread of the virus can be avoided as far as possible. "The collection of lightweight packaging from the yellow bag or yellow garbage can collection will also continue as planned for the time being," emphasizes the partner.

Technical services still possible

Even in times of the Corona crisis, environmental hazards must be averted, leaking pipes must be rehabilitated, hazardous waste must be disposed of, industrial cleaning work must be able to be carried out during plant shutdowns. Lobbe continues to provide all these technical services. In the area of emergency management, Lobbe operates a 24/7 on-call emergency service on behalf of fire brigades and motorway maintenance authorities. Lobbe Sewerage Services continues to carry out the rehabilitation of damage to pipelines. The acceptance of liquid as well as commercial waste is possible at the usual times as before. The cleaning work of Lobbe-Industrieservice will be carried out to the planned extent until further notice, taking into account the relevant hygiene regulations and plant requirements.

Home office and video conference

Lobbe has organized its administrative activities accordingly. One measure is to isolate employees by working from home. "We also send our administrative staff to work from home wherever possible. This means that the departments often work in teams on a two-week rolling rotation," explains Heike Edelhoff. Parents with children naturally have priority. Employees who need to be present at the workplace are given individual offices. Disinfectants are provided in sufficient quantities in each building. The management team is spread across different locations and coordinates via video conferencing.

Waste management and critical infrastructure maintenance are systemically relevant

Various laws regulate the supply of energy, the supply of water, the disposal of sewage and waste, the recycling of residual materials, the provision of public transport services, the provision of health services, the provision and management of housing, of publicly used land and real estate, and the provision of basic communication services.
