Metals are valuable but limited resources. Up to 60% of many scrap metals can be recycled - proper disposal and processing are therefore essential. There is no alternative to recycling: using one tonne of scrap steel saves 1.5 tons of iron ore, 0.5 tons of fuel and reduces CO₂ emissions by one tonne.

Cable scrap consists of old electrical cables made up of insulating and conductive materials. As hardly anything works in the modern world without cables, tons of old cables are produced every year in Europe alone.
