Circular economy needs partners

Iserlohn. The circular economy thrives on the participation of all those involved along the value chain. The first step on the way to recycling is practical collection. Lobbe is a proven partner with extensive experience in various areas. With six operating sites, Lobbe now also supports Rewindo Fenster-Recycling-Service GmbH in the collection and bundling of smaller quantities of old PVC windows, roller shutters and doors for recycling.

Rewindo is the recycling initiative for dismantled plastic windows, roller shutters and doors of the German plastic profile manufacturers. It has been organising the recycling of disused plastic windows and co. throughout Germany since 2002. Almost 30,000 tonnes of high-quality PVC regranulate were obtained in 2016 from around 1.8 million recycled old windows and over 74,000 tonnes of production waste from window and building profiles. The regranulate serves as a raw material of equal quality in the manufacture of new products.

In addition to the good recyclability of the material, the decisive factor for recycling is not least the practical logistical implementation. In addition to a nationwide collection system, this also includes the expansion of an acceptance network for assembly teams and craftsmen's businesses that cannot temporarily store removed windows, even in very small quantities. This infrastructure is now being significantly improved with the Lobbe locations in Arnsberg, Attendorn, Bergneustadt, Brilon, Hagen and Iserlohn. In any case, these locations with their recycling centres are a convenient disposal option for tradespeople in the region. For Lobbe managing director Christoph Aßmann, integrating them into the Rewindo network was only logical: "The conditions at these locations are optimal and for the self-delivering businesses this is a very sensible addition.

The fact that recycling management works well with efficient partners is also evident in the collection of light bulbs. Lobbe has been working for the Lightcycle take-back system in North Rhine-Westphalia for several years. After a successful tender, the cooperation will now continue in 2018 and 2019 and even additional lots could be won.

These are just two examples that show how material cycles can succeed in partnership and how new values can be created from waste.
