The suction flushing trucks clean around 3,000 metres of rainwater channel and the tunnel's drainage.
The task in the Hestenberg Tunnel is a special challenge, because all drainage systems in the approximately 750-metre-long tunnel have to be cleaned and checked in just two days. This includes about 3,000 metres of rainwater channel and drainage. All kinds of dirt accumulates in the drainage channel over the course of the year. Leaves blow in, dirt comes off vehicles. Together with fine particles such as tyre wear, everything collects in the sewer. The pipes and canals are flushed with suction flushing vehicles and the water is pumped out again at the same time. For the first time, Lobbe relied on the joint vehicle technology and know-how of the two locations in Hagen and Paderborn. After the thorough cleaning of the drainage facilities, the sewers are still inspected with a camera. This also requires top performance from Lobbe, because the 3,000 metres need to be thoroughly checked for possible damage. A camera is used, whose head can be turned, tilted and swivelled at the touch of a button to inspect all possible corners in the canal. In just two days, all the canals have been cleaned, checked for possible damage with the camera and the major cleaning in the tunnel has thus been successfully completed. Then, for the time being, traffic can also roll through the clean and safe tunnel again.
